A Convergent Think Tank to Combat Anti-Microbial Resistance Challenge in India
About:
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has been identified by WHO as one of the top ten global healthcare threatsthat is presently claiming 700,000 lives per year. It is projected that AMR related mortality will reach 10 millionper year by 2050, of which 2 million will be in India alone. Globally, there has been an increased impetus to address AMR through trans-disciplinary, multi-sectoraland inclusive approaches.
India needs to urgently step up its response to this emerging health emergency by convening expertise and resources for collective action.
Conceptualised and driven by C-CAMP, the India AMR Innovation Hub (IAIH) is a unique Convergent Think Tank on AMR Interventions, with Indian and global stakeholders - Government, Academia, Industry, Philanthropic and not-for profit organizations, coming together to boost consolidation and fast-tracking national efforts against AMR for a larger global health impact.
Vision
The vision of the IAIH is to be a converging and a collaborative platform of key national and international stakeholders towards reducing the AMR burden in India, through deeper participation in the national efforts to tackle this global health challenge, thereby contributing to the global fight against AMR.
Mission
The Mission of the IAIH is to collectively bring in the required interventions for nurturing AMR Innovation Ecosystem including developing Access and Public Health Policy, Capability and Capacity Building, AMR Stewardship and Public Communication.
Focus areas
IAIH will focus on AMR related Therapeutics, Vaccine Development, Rapid Screening and Diagnostics, Surveillance, Pandemic Preparedness and Stewardship to reduce the threat of AMR (human AMR) including those at the Human-Animal-Ecosystem interface (OneHealth) and AMR in Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD).
Outcomes
The envisaged major outcomes of the IAIH are:
- Contributing towards reducing the AMR burden in India and beyond
- Delivering specific interventions to lower the projected mortality rate in India
