C-CAMP hosts India Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Innovation Workshop, bringing together key stakeholders to combat AMR

The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP), under the aegis of the India AMR Innovation Hub (IAIH), successfully conducted the India AMR Innovation Workshop today at its Bengaluru campus.

The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP), under the aegis of the India AMR Innovation Hub (IAIH), successfully conducted the India AMR Innovation Workshop today at its Bengaluru campus.

The workshop brought together over 50 key stakeholders from academia, industry, government, and the public health ecosystem, all united in their efforts to combat the growing threat of AMR.

The event featured a technology showcase of breakthrough innovations supported by C-CAMP, under the IAIH, including Pocket PCR devices, air sterilisation systems, and paper-based lateral flow tests (LFTs). Innovators had the opportunity to interact directly with stakeholders, receiving vital feedback and collaborations.

Roadmapping toward strengthening India’s National Action Plan 2.0 on AMR:

A roadmapping exercise to strengthen India’s National Action Plan 2.0 (NAP 2.0) on AMR was also conducted. Discussions focused on actionable steps targeting the One Health approach, which integrates human, animal, and environmental health.

The discussions emphasised the need for deep collaboration among government bodies, innovators, industry, and policymakers to accelerate impactful interventions.

This workshop is expected to serve as a launchpad for future initiatives under the IAIH umbrella, shaping further programmes and efforts addressing AMR across the One Health spectrum.

Launch of AMR challenges:

C-CAMP with support from the International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions (ICARS) launched a One Health AMR Challenge 2025 to identify, support, and scale breakthrough technologies tackling AMR across human, animal, and environmental health in presence of Prof Ajay Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Govt of India (PSA). Selected innovations will receive financial support ranging from $50,000 to $250,000 (₹40 lakhs to ₹2 crores) based on technology readiness. Comprehensive technical assistance—including regulatory, legal, IP, manufacturing, and market readiness support will also be provided.

Quotes:

Welcoming the participants, Dr. Taslimarif Saiyed, Director-CEO, C-CAMP said: “C-CAMP is delighted to host this first-of-a-kind workshop under the India AMR Innovation Hub umbrella chaired by Prof Sood, PSA which aims to convene a robust national network of stakeholders, including researchers, innovators, policymakers, healthcare providers, and industry leaders working in cross sectoral AMR domain. We look forward to working together to foster solutions for AMR by leveraging cutting-edge research and contribute to policy making at the Central and State levels to combat this huge global threat.”

Prof Ajay Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Govt of India said, “As Chair of the C-CAMP anchored India AMR Innovation Hub, I’m excited to be a part of this crucial workshop. With India’s AMR NAP 2.0 coming up, such workshops will play a pivotal role in providing on-ground perspective and strategic guidance to address the complex challenges of AMR.”

Dr. Ekroop Caur, IAS, Secretary, Department of Electronics, Information Technology, Biotechnology, and Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka in her inaugural address added: “AMR is not just a public health crisis; it poses a significant threat to economic development and societal growth at large. Our recently unveiled Biotech Policy identifies AMR as a key focus area for intervention, reflecting the Government of Karnataka’s commitment to addressing this challenge through innovation and collaboration. We need a collective, coordinated effort to tackle AMR, and what I see here today through the India AMR Innovation Hub is a promising start — many stakeholders coming together in one room, collaborating to address a shared challenge.”

Panel Discussion:

With a special focus on the urgent need for a coordinated One Health approach, experts from DBT, ICMR and state governments, shared their perspectives across human, animal, and environmental health. The discussion on, “Tackling AMR in India: A One Health Approach Across National and State Levels” underscored the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration and local implementation frameworks.

In the second thematic panel of the day, titled “Innovating Across One Health: IAIH’s Strategic Initiatives in Environment, Human, and Animal AMR,” the spotlight was on cutting-edge innovations from our startups and policymaking dimensions of the PSA office.

Panel Discussion III, titled “Exploring Synergies Between Global Ecosystems to Fast-track Contextual Innovations in AMR for India,” brought together key global stakeholders to explore how international partnerships can accelerate locally relevant AMR solutions.

The final session addressed “Global Best Practices from Innovation-Focused Programs for India’s AMR Needs,” focused on how global strategies can be adapted to India’s AMR landscape.
