C-CAMP joins the league of India’s top research institutes and AICTE as Wadhwani Innovation Network (WIN) Centres of Excellence to Boost Research Commercialiation in India.

~ C-CAMP has been chosen along with IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Hyderabad and IISc Bangalore to establish Centres of Excellence (CoE) by Wadhwani Foundation in the domain of bioengineering and biotechnology with a funding support of USD 1 Million annually

~  A great example of public-private partnership to position India as a global powerhouse of science and technology led growth

The Wadhwani Foundation, in a significant move for the country’s innovation landscape, has signed MoUs with C-CAMP, as well as the other eminent institutes to establish Wadhwani Innovation Network Centres of Excellence (WIN-COEs) to accelerate the commercialisation of academic innovations. This partnership aims to transform academic and laboratory research by Indian faculty, students, and researchers into real-world solutions that can be scaled up and implemented by industries, marketed as products, creating long-term economic value, and benefiting society.

The C-CAMP WIN-COE aims to accelerate home-grown research and discoveries to create an ecosystem that provides inclusive and equitable solutions from emerging technologies, like Synthetic Biology and Bioengineering, while also fostering collaboration between industry, universities, research institutions, and the government.

Aligned with the Anusandhan National Research Foundation’s (ANRF) vision of science-driven growth, the initiative will propel innovations that address pressing socio-economic issues. These solutions will be selected by a national jury of experts; C-CAMP WIN-COE will provide funding and a variety of in-kind support, including incubation, mentorship and hand-holding, to make them commercially viable.

Dr. Ajay Kela, President & CEO of the Wadhwani Foundation, underscored the transformative potential of innovation and research in addressing global challenges. He stated, “Emerging technologies like Advanced AI, Synthetic Biology, Quantum Computing, Semiconductors, Healthtech, and SpaceTech hold immense promise for inclusive and equitable solutions. Our previous collaboration with IIT Bombay funded approximately ~100 projects, ~10 of which were commercially successful. Establishing WIN COEs will amplify such solutions and catalyse their application in real-world scenarios – setting India on a trajectory of scientific economic progress.”

Dr Taslimarif Saiyed, C-CAMP Director and CEO welcomed this exciting development for India’s innovation ecosystem and said, “C-CAMP is delighted to be joining hands with Wadhwani Foundation, one of the most well-known philanthropies in India driving innovation and research for job creation. Through this partnership we will support cross-disciplinary solutions in biotech and bioengineering to solve societal challenges. We are looking forward to working together with the other WIN COE partners to make and establish methods for making scientific ideas commercially feasible and viable.”

Prof. TG Sitharam, Chairman, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), said, "India, today is poised to lead global development. It is crucial that we instill a mindset of innovation and leadership in our youth. This collaboration advances innovation and entrepreneurship in top institutions, empowering young minds to lead the nation with groundbreaking ideas and a visionary spirit.”
