About the talk:
This session will detail how research on copper (an essential micronutrient for the growth and development of all aerobic organisms) led to a promising treatment for a rare fatal disease called Menkes disease. The speakers will share the story of elesclomol, a cancer drug, now showing potential to treat Menkes disease in infants.
This talk will highlight how fundamental discoveries using simple model organisms can be quickly translated into the development of human therapeutics.
